TENNANT CREEK HIGH SCHOOL - NEW GYMNASIUM

Les Platt's first experience in the design of a major project in the Northern Territory was in 1983/ 1984 with the design, documentation and contract administration of the Tennant Creek High School. 26 years later Platt Consultants were awarded the consultancy to design a new stand alone gymnasium at the southern extremity of the existing High School.

The new gymnasium, which has recently been completed, comprises a foyer, main hall (to accommodate full size netball and basketball courts), community store, gymnasium store, toilets and change rooms.

The budget was very tight and required close monitoring through the design and documentation stages, and the rationalisation of the scope of work. The construction system, and in particular the structural steel was designed to facilitate easer of transport and erection at Tennant Creek.  The project was built within budget.
