ARAFURA TIMOR RESEARCH FACILITY / AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE OF MARINE SCIENCE - NEW LABORATORY, DARWIN - STAGE 1

Project value: $4m
Project status: 100% complete

As a member of the Managing Contractors (Laing ORourke) D & C team Les Platt undertook extensive consultation with user groups and key stakeholders to develop the Brief, which included a Technical User Group comprising AIMs Scientists located in Townsville.

In consultation with the Technical User Group particular attention was given to the detailed layouts of each space / area ensuring there were no conflicts of the various elements. To achieve this detailed room plans and elevations were developed showing the location for all furniture, fittings, equipment and services.

The RFT document for this new laboratory facility specifically stated the need for energy sustainable design.

Features that have been incorporated into the Laboratory design include appropriate orientation / the incorporation of building management systems to night purge heat and cool building and the use of sunshade devices to assist day lighting but also to minimise heat load.
